Why Your Association’s Podcast Needs to Be on YouTube

Adding your podcast to YouTube is easier (and more important) than you think.

Podcasting Insight of the Week
Topic:
YouTube as a Discovery Engine
Why It Matters: Nearly 75% of podcast listeners now watch or play podcast videos even if minimized. Which means if people are like me they pull up their podcast and add it to the 100 browser tabs they have open to listen to it.

YouTube is the most used podcast platform and a great content discovery tool. We push all of our clients to produce a YouTube version, even if it is just a static image and the audio playing underneath.  A simple branded background for your audio episode is enough to start attracting views and new listeners. Consider adding the host and guests' faces.

Tool Spotlight: Leettus Wireless Lavalier Microphone
Why It’s Great:
If you want to get away from your office and record some video or record a simple podcast anywhere, try this cost-effective option.  There are, of course, many high-quality lavaliers and expensive microphones, but these $15 Lavs are a quick and easy way to record from your iPhone or Android phone. It has a small receiver that effortlessly plugs into the bottom of your phone. Below is a YouTube channel where I experimented.  I used the Leetus Lav microphone, and as you can see, there was a loud fountain behind me, plus traffic, and the mic doesn't pick up any of the sounds.  To be honest, I might have done some light treatment to the audio. But it gives you an idea of how far I was sitting from the phone.  My apologies in advance for the bad joke and my massive Gandolf beard, which I no longer have.  Check out the Test

Cool Things to Know About YouTube
More than 1 billion people a month watch YouTube. There's a pretty good chance your members are consuming content from YouTube. This morning, I rode my Peloton bike and didn't feel like someone yelling at me in a cycling class, so I watched a podcast. The timing was perfect as I wrote this newsletter today.

Almost all TVs are smart and come with YouTube. Another cool thing is that Google owns YouTube, so it has to help with SEO on finding your podcast!

One last thing, it is an easy way to embed on your association website. We provide players for our clients, but this is another way to easily share it with members and the industry you represent.

Thanks for reading.

Mike
